Tadoba Safari for Foreigners: Permits, Fees, Passport Rules (2026)
Planning a Tadoba tiger safari from abroad? What foreign nationals actually pay (regular safaris cost the same as for Indians), the passport-only ID rule, when booking opens in your time zone, and how to get to Tadoba from an international flight.
Tadoba is one of the best places in the world to see a wild tiger — and one of the least known outside India. If you're planning from abroad, the rules are simpler than most operators make them sound. Here is what the official Tadoba–Andhari Tiger Reserve portal actually says, with the practical bits it doesn't.
Do foreigners pay more?
For a regular jeep safari, no. Tadoba charges per jeep, not per person, and the price is the same whatever passport you hold. What changes the price is the day of the week and how far ahead you book:
| Booked | Mon – Fri | Sat – Sun |
|---|---|---|
| 1–59 days ahead | ₹5,800 per jeep | ₹6,800 per jeep |
| 60–120 days ahead | ₹8,800 per jeep | ₹12,800 per jeep |
That covers entry, the mandatory forest guide and the gypsy (open safari jeep), for up to six guests. A camera fee of ₹250 is paid at the gate. Split between two people, a weekday core safari works out at roughly ₹2,900–4,400 each — roughly US$33–52.
Buffer-zone safaris cost ₹6,000 (weekday) or ₹7,000 (weekend) per jeep, again the same for everyone.
Where foreigners do pay more is the full-day safari. Tadoba sells a limited number of full-day permits (core, for photography and videography; and buffer) at ₹70,000 per jeep for foreign tourists versus ₹50,000 for Indian tourists. Full-day core permits allow a maximum of four guests, and they are non-refundable. Most visitors don't need one; serious photographers sometimes do.
The passport rule — read this twice
The reserve's rule, word for word: "For foreigners, only a passport is accepted as ID proof." In practice:
- Bring your original passport on every safari. Photocopies, phone photos and driving licences are refused, and you will not be let in.
- The name on the permit must match your passport exactly. If someone books for you, send them your name as printed on the passport.
- Full-day permits are strict: only the names on the online ticket may ride.
When does booking open — in your time zone?
Permits open 120 days before the safari date at 12:00 AM India Standard Time (UTC+5:30). That's the previous evening for most visitors:
| Your location | Booking opens |
|---|---|
| London (GMT) | 6:30 PM the day before |
| Central Europe (CET) | 7:30 PM the day before |
| New York (EST) | 1:30 PM the day before |
| Dubai (GST) | 10:30 PM the day before |
| Singapore (SGT) | 2:30 AM, same date |
These are winter clock times; add an hour if your country is on summer time. For April–June and holiday weeks, popular gates sell out fast. The booking site's payments and refunds run on Indian rails — the refund schedule lists UPI and wallets — which is why most overseas travellers have a local operator book the permits.
Cancellations
Plan around this before you book permits:
- Permits booked 60–120 days ahead cannot be cancelled — no refund.
- Permits booked under 60 days ahead can be cancelled more than 15 days before the safari, with 50% deducted.
- Tatkal (last-minute) and full-day permits are non-refundable.
If your international flights might move, book permits once flights are confirmed.
Getting to Tadoba from abroad
Fly into Nagpur (NAG). It's the gateway for both Tadoba and Pench, with frequent domestic flights from Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chennai. Most international travellers connect through Delhi or Mumbai the same day.
From Nagpur it's about 140 km to Moharli gate — roughly 3 hours by road. Our Nagpur to Tadoba guide has the routes and drive times.
You'll also need a valid Indian visa — most nationalities can apply for an e-Visa through the Government of India's official portal. Use only the official site, not agents.
Practical tips for international visitors
- Season: October to June. Core zones close 1 July – 30 September. For the best tiger odds, April to early June; for comfortable weather, November to February. See best time to visit Tadoba.
- Closed days: core gates every Tuesday, buffer gates every Wednesday — don't schedule a safari day on them.
- Clothing: muted earth tones, layers for cold winter dawns, closed shoes. Our packing checklist covers it.
- Cash: carry some rupees for tips and small purchases near the gates; card acceptance outside resorts is patchy.
- Rules in the jeep: stay seated, no feeding or calling to animals, no plastic. Disturbing wildlife is a fineable offence (₹5,000).
- Combine with Pench: two different forests in one trip, linked by a direct road — see Tadoba to Pench.
